Ostler

One watch at a time, made by hand. Turn it over, take it apart — it was made to be looked at this closely.

The dial up close: green sunray darkening to its rim, three ringed sub-dials, applied batons and baton hands with luminous inserts, a tachymeter and the date at half past four

01It keeps your time

Read at a glance, even in the dark.

The day and the date are today’s, and the running seconds at three step six times a second. Applied batons, each with a luminous insert in a polished frame, over a sunray dial that darkens toward its rim.

The movement through the sapphire caseback: a striped three-quarter plate, gold chatons, blued screws and an engraved balance cock

02Calibre O·2

Turn it over.

Behind the sapphire back, a hand-wound chronograph movement: 40 hours on a full wind, its balance swinging back and forth 21,600 times an hour.

The watch taken apart along its axis: crystal, hands, dial, mainplate, the going train, the three-quarter plate, balance and cock, and the caseback

03Every part, made or finished here

Take it apart.

Cut, finished and fitted in the workshop, then assembled, adjusted in five positions and cased by the same pair of hands.

04The finishing

Surfaces nobody will see, finished anyway.

  • Glashütte stripes across the three-quarter plate
  • Perlage on the mainplate beneath it
  • Anglage: every edge bevelled and polished
  • Heat-blued screws, blued over a flame, not painted
  • A balance cock engraved by hand, no two alike
